Bullet Points Friday are a few things I’ve been reading or been up to that might interest you. A little something for the weekend.
- BOOK: Never Split The Difference: Negotiating Like Your Life Depended On It by Chris Voss. Our lives are filled with negotiations whether in our personal lives or professional. This book helps you learn skills you can use today to get a better deal in whatever you want – dealing with angry customers, buying items for your business, negotiating a price or fee, or even getting your little siblings/partner to do something you want. You can apply these to any situation.
- ARTICLE: The 5-Hour Rule Used by Bill Gates, Jack Ma, and Elon Musk. The most successful people on the planet are also the people likeliest to devote an hour a day to reading and learning. Why not mimic what they do to increase your chances of success?
- PODCAST: The Story by The Mission (Itunes). I love podcasts and radio. I don’t know why exactly but I do. Maybe it’s the voices, maybe it’s because I can do other things while listening to them. Whatever it is, I’m almost always listening to something (music, radio, podcast, ambient noise) whenever I want to get productive or simply need to relax.
One of my favourite podcasts is The Story. It tells the unknown backstories of people who changed the world. Each episode is a mini-historical biography and includes life lessons and actionable insights from the most courageous and successful people in history. You’ll get to walk a mile in their shoes, and the person’s identity is a mystery until the climax. Each episode is usually 10 minutes or less. Short and sweet.
- APP: Talking about ambient noise, I found this website that has really cool, soothing noises (rain, seaside, forest, birds, etc) to help you relax or be more productive, whatever your current mood is. It’s called Noisli. Check it out.
